The EC is set to strengthen its commitment to tightening up on energy waste in buildings.

The European Commission is to extend its efficiency targets beyond the initial group of member states, including the UK, to all countries within the EU.

Furthermore, it will require all public authorities to double it’s current rate of building refurbishments to a new level of 2% of their stock.

Other proposals in the pipeline include incentives for tenants to invest in energy efficiency measures, a requirement for all large companies to have energy audits and finally a tightening up of existing legislation, such as EPCs, DECs, ACRs to further improve standards.

This backs up what Business Footprint has been saying in our recent free presentation Commercial Property and Energy – that when dealing with commercial property the financial risks attached to ignoring the present and forthcoming energy regulations are widespread.

And this is just the beginning.
